sonic 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 reunites the blue alien hedgehog and his best friend Tails, this time joined by a new character, Knuckles (Idris Elba). They’re on the run from Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who has escaped the mushroom planet.

Despite their best efforts, Sonic’s plans to be a hero repeatedly backfire, but Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) are determined to keep him out of trouble. That’s a tough thing to do with the little blue hedgehog, but Sonic 2 does a good job of investing the action with an emotional arc that ties into his erratic and risky quest for heroism.

From the first Sonic game, the series has created a massive array of characters with powerful motivations, skills, and backstories (yes, more than one in some cases). These characters give Sonic games the depth and heart that fans love to replay. 123 Movies Sonic 2 has no advertisements and a great selection of films to choose from.

In Sonic 2, there is a new addition to the cast. Thomas Michael “Tom” Wachowski, sheriff of Green Hills, joins the adventure as a mentor and friend to Sonic. Despite being a law enforcement officer, Tom and his wife Maddie are good parents who encourage Sonic to develop his own personal strengths and abilities.

Aside from Tom and Maddie, other characters include Knuckles the echidna and Rouge the bat.

Knuckles is a red echidna that tries to help Dr. Eggman locate the seven Chaos Emeralds to defeat Robotnik, though he is quite short-tempered and gullible. Meanwhile, Rouge is a spy for the G.U.N who has some fun toying with Knuckles, much to his dismay.

After the events of the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, Dr. Robotnik has been banished to the Mushroom Planet and plans to seek revenge. He forms a new ally in Knuckles (Idris Elba) and returns to Earth with a goal of finding the chaos emerald, a key to ultimate power.

In order to stop Robotnik, Sonic and his new friends must travel across the world in their search for the emerald. Along the way, they will face off against Robotnik and his new nemesis GUN (Guardian Units of Nations), an organization that tracks alien activity.

The story of Sonic 2 is a good one, and it’s fun to watch as a new adventure begins for the blue hedgehog. But despite a strong cast, the film feels too limited to tell a complex story.

Several years have passed since Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) helped free his planet from Dr. Robotnik’s evil plans in the first film, and Sonic is now a hero and living happily in Green Hills, Montana with his adoptive sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) and his wife Maddie (Tika Sumpter).

When they go on vacation for a wedding, though, Sonic must face a new threat. He’s been marooned on an alien mushroom planet, and his nemesis is back for revenge. This time, he’s teamed with a powerful echidna named Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba).

They plan to get hold of the Master Emerald – an ancient relic that grants the user unlimited power and allows them to change reality to their will. But they’re caught off guard when Sonic and Tails find them and team up to stop them from stealing the emerald. Luckily, they also have Tom and Maddie by their side, who are headed to Hawaii for Rachel’s wedding.

After settling into life in Green Hills, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) continues to prove himself a hero. However, he has his work cut out for him when he is invaded by two aliens: Tails, an anthropomorphic fox that can fly, and Knuckles, a dog-like bruiser who has a cultural bone to pick with Sonic.

The action sequences in this sequel feel more in tune with the video game source material. But the film gets stuck in its final climax and ends up feeling more like a video game adaptation than a faithful live-action adaptation.

The good news is that this sequel is still rated PG for some violence, rude humor and mild language. This makes it a safe movie for kids ages 6 and up, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
