Steps on how to clean a pipe
Step 1 – Place the pipe in the sealable bag and fill it with alcohol until the pipe is completely covered. If you don’t have a sealable bag, you can use a container, but you’ll have to let it soak for longer because you can’t shake it like you would in the bag.
Step 2 – Add salt to the bag; it acts like a sponge to scrub off resin in areas where a sponge won’t reach. Work the salt into the pipe to ensure it cleans every corner. Leave the pipe to soak in the bag for 1 hour; it allows the alcohol to properly dissolve the resin.
Step 3 – After allowing the pipe to soak, shake the bag vigorously to loosen any residual resin. Skip this step if you’re using a container to avoid breaking your pipe.
Step 4 – Remove the pipe from the bag and wash it with dish soap and warm water. This gets rid of any stubborn resin still sticking to the pipe; you could also try using a paperclip or pipe cleaner to get rid of any resin left but be careful to avoid scratching your pipe. After washing the pipe, rinse it in warm water.
Step 5 – Allow the pipe to completely dry before using it again. If your pipe is not as clean as you’d like, repeat the process with fresh salt.
Baking soda and vinegar also work well in getting resin out of your pipe; they’re an alternative for alcohol. The best thing you can do is frequently clean your pipe; the more you clean the pipe, the easier it is to keep clean and increase its lifespan.
